The mission of the Membership & Inclusion Committee is to attract and retain minority members to the Section so the diversity of the membership of the Section more nearly reflects the diversity of membership of The Florida Bar generally. Although unfortunately there is a paucity of empirical evidence to support the observation, the MIC believes the membership of the RPPTL does not currently reflect the ethnic, racial or disability diversity of membership in The Florida Bar. A method to encourage more diverse membership in the Section is for the Section to develop, enhance, present and publicize broad-based programs which are especially useful to its minority members. This imbalance in our membership cannot be corrected overnight or even in the near term. It must be corrected over time through consistent, coordinated and continuing programs designed to accomplish that goal. However, even though results may be in the future, unless and until we begin, the goal will never draw any closer. Diversity must begin at the membership level, spread upward to the working committee level, and eventually reach into the Section Executive Council and Section officer level. Diversity will be neither easy nor cheap to accomplish.
